  • Kazakhstan Gains Strategic Access to China’s Green Technology Bank

The International Centre for Green Technologies and Investment Projects (ICGTIP) and the Shanghai Centre for Science and Technology Exchange have signed a strategic cooperation agreement granting Kazakhstan direct access to the Green Technology Bank, one of Asia’s largest platforms for green technologies.

The agreement paves the way for Kazakhstan to accelerate the adoption of environmental innovations. Local companies, research institutions, and startups will now be able to access Chinese advancements in areas such as renewable energy, water resource management, waste recycling, agroecology, and more.

As part of the partnership, the Chinese side will provide access to the bank’s technology database and expert network. It will also support the systematic evaluation and implementation of twenty priority green projects in Kazakhstan. Annual joint events — including business missions, forums, and roadshows — are planned, with the potential for financial support from China.

Saken Kalkamanov, Acting Chairman of ICGTIP, highlighted the strategic significance of the agreement:

“Kazakhstan now has direct access to the expertise and solutions of a global leader in green technologies. This forms a solid foundation for adopting ecological innovations and attracting investment”, Kalkamanov said.

The partnership is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation under initiatives such as the Belt and Road and further integrate Kazakhstan into the global green agenda through knowledge exchange, market access, and joint projects.
