On June 16, 2025, a Kazakhstani delegation participated in the inaugural session of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Assembly, held in New Delhi, India.
Kazakhstan’s involvement marked an important step toward strengthening international collaboration in the conservation of rare and endangered wild cat species, such as the Amur tiger and the snow leopard.
During the visit, the delegation held bilateral meetings with India’s Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, as well as with the Secretary Generals of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and IBCA. Discussions focused on practical strategies for restoring Kazakhstan’s tiger population, training conservation specialists, exchanging scientific knowledge, and applying international best practices.
“India reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kazakhstan in areas such as veterinary care, environmental monitoring, and ecosystem management. Assembly participants also expressed a shared interest in launching joint initiatives to protect the snow leopard and other big cat species” the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources states.
Kazakhstan’s engagement in the IBCA opens up new opportunities to integrate into the global environmental agenda and deepen cooperation in biodiversity conservation.
