  • Viksit Bharat Run Held in Astana

Astana hosted the Viksit Bharat Run, drawing more than 200 participants, infotabigat.kz reports.

Opening the event, India’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Y.K. Sailas Thangal, noted that the Sewa Pakhwada, or “service fortnight,” is taking place from September 17 to October 2. He emphasized the significance of the Viksit Bharat Run as part of this initiative, which, he said, begins with the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and concludes on the 156th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

“This event is being held in 150 cities worldwide. Its goal is to inspire people to contribute to India’s growth as a confident and fully developed nation. Under the motto ‘Run for Nation-Building,’ the initiative highlights India’s achievements, strengthens unity, expands global partnerships, fosters youth leadership and civic engagement, and encourages participation from the Indian diaspora. It reflects Prime Minister Modi’s vision of citizen empowerment and collective development. Under his leadership, sweeping reforms in infrastructure, digital technology, healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability have opened new opportunities and strengthened India’s role as a global partner,” Thangal said.

He added that the Indian government had chosen Astana as a key city for the campaign.

“Sewa represents the core values of Indian civilization — service, responsibility, and collective effort. Today’s event further deepened cooperation between Kazakhstan and India. Such initiatives reinforce our shared sense of responsibility,” the ambassador stressed.

Astana student Zhansultan Gizatuly took part in the run on behalf of the civic organization Qadamdas.

“Together with other members of Qadamdas, we regularly join such marathons. Despite today’s unfavorable weather, people of different nationalities gathered here, and we want to keep taking part in initiatives that promote friendship between nations,” he said.

As part of the “Ek Ped Ke Naam” (“One Tree, One Name”) campaign, symbolizing environmental protection and sustainable development, a tree was planted. Guests were also treated to Indian cuisine, while participants received T-shirts and medals. Certificates and gifts were awarded to the winners.

The event concluded with the ambassador and attendees taking two important pledges — Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
