The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan and the German Water Partnership (GWP) have signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement, marking a new milestone in bilateral cooperation. The agreement builds on discussions held a year ago in Germany between Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev and the GWP leadership, infotаbigаt.kz reports.
German Water Partnership is a network that brings together over 300 German organizations active in the water sector — ranging from research institutes and engineering firms to global technology manufacturers and consulting companies.
Adopting Global Best Practices
The partnership will enable Kazakhstan to adopt international best practices in water management, including the introduction of water-saving technologies, climate resilience measures, and specialist training programs.
German expertise is already being applied in Kazakhstan in digital forecasting and modeling of water resources, as well as in the construction of hydraulic infrastructure.
Plans for a Kazakhstan-German Water Innovation Hub
During their meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Bozumbayev and GWP Managing Director Boris Greifender discussed new opportunities for collaboration, including the proposal to establish a Kazakhstan–German Water Innovation Hub at the Ministry’s Information and Analytical Center, with support from GWP.
Both sides expressed confidence that the signed agreement will serve as a solid foundation for future joint projects, fostering innovation, efficiency, and sustainable water management in the face of growing climate challenges.
