Kazakhstan and Finland have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of sustainable water resource management, infotabigat.kz reports.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Finland during the official visit of Finnish President Alexander Stubb to Kazakhstan.
The MoU aims to foster collaboration in modernising water infrastructure, promoting efficient water use and management, and facilitating the exchange of expertise and advanced technologies between the two countries.
Under the agreement, the parties will cooperate in key areas such as:

industrial water treatment and reuse technologies;

the introduction of water-saving and digital monitoring solutions;

data collection and innovation in water management;

joint scientific research and professional training in groundwater management and water diplomacy;

and the exchange of experience in managing flood and drought risks.
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, emphasised the importance of the new partnership:
“This memorandum provides a foundation for joint initiatives and projects that will promote the implementation of best practices, innovative solutions and modern approaches. Kazakhstan is currently undergoing a large-scale transformation of its water management sector, and we highly value Finland’s experience in sustainable water resource management and technological innovation. We are confident that applying international best practices will be key to achieving our shared goals.”
